Wash & Pick
We have the ability to wash and pick any fiber up to six inches long. After washing and drying, the fibers are often clumped and densely packed. Picking separates, or opens the fibers and prepares them for carding.
Fiber of 1.5 to 6 inches can be processed into roving. They are produced, all or in part, on the carding machine, where fibers are aligned. The roving can be further processed into slivers on the drawframe. Rovings are packaged loose or in bumps of predetermined weights.
Fiber must first be processed into roving on the carding machine, then it is further processed into slivers on the drawframe. This process produces a more uniform product of a thinner diameter. Slivers are packaged either loose or in bumps of predetermined weights.
Fiber of 1.5 to 6 inches can be processed into batts. They are produced, all or in part, on the carding machine where the fibers are aligned. Our batts are approximately 24 inches wide and 48 inches long.
Sheets of felt approximately 3 by 4 foot can be produced. It takes about one and one half pounds of fiber per sheet. We cannot guarantee the quality of felt due to the fact that some fibers do not felt as well as others.
Fiber length of 1.5 to 4 inches is ideal. Shorter or longer fibers may be acceptable with prior arrangements. We have the ability to produce almost any weight yarn and strongly encourage you to send a sample of yarn along with your fiber so we can match your needs.
